Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day

Welcome to my blog new friends! And old friends, I bet you can guess what I'm going to be giving away today.

Yes, you guessed it. Yarn, crochet hooks, and even a crochet book. Because I desperately want someone to have as much fun, as I'm having crocheting. It's not tough at all. And it makes me think, that I should have tried this a long time ago!

But I want for someone to learn something new. And to have some fun. Oh, and I really like the color of this yarn. I think it would just make a perfect scarf. Or hat. It's super soft too!

All you have to do is leave me a comment, telling me about a great holiday craft for kids. I've got 3 kids. So I need all the help keeping them both entertained and creative! The giveaway will end on December 19th at midnight. If you haven't read my profile, I'm a makeup artist. So you can guarantee that I'm going to add in some makeup too! Good Luck! And Happy Holidays!

I really, really want to learn how to crochet! I picked up a little bit from a friend who is making a video game about making your own crochet patterns! What little I learned has me excited to learn more. I want to be able to make those cute little amigurumi dolls someday.

My favorite holiday craft for kids is making paper snowflakes and other simple paper decorations. I used to love making strings of "paper lanterns" in festive colors and patterns. Not exactly traditional seasonal fare, but it made the house more colorful! This was how I did it: http://www.ehow.com/how_2045691_make-paper-lanterns.html

This is amazing - coz we have a short supply of some crochet hook sizes here in Sri Lanka - I'd love to win these!
Thanks for the chance :)
As for keeping the kids busy - I think involving them in the kitchen like rolling cookie dough, decorating cookies & making cake pops would be so interesting - of course it would be messy :)

How wonderful! Thanks for the chance! How about making gingerbread houses!

Crochet hooks! I am trying to teach my little one how to crochet. For her holiday craft, she is crocheting chain "garland" for our Christmas tree. I thought that would be a fun way to introduce crochet and give her lots of practice holding the hook and yarn. She would love to get this in the mail! The only other crafts we have been doing are the usual, paper chains, stringing popcorn, making cut-out cookies, handmade greeting cards, etc. Hope you have a fun holiday with your little ones!

I think pop-up cards are a great idea for children to make. They're so much fun. It is fun to see how creative you can be with them. Thanks for the chance to win. Happy Christmas. stephspitzer at gmail dot com

I've been knitting, but not crocheting yet!

How about baking Christmas cookies and decorating them? Bound to get a bit messy, but so much yummy fun!

I love making cookies with my kids. Yeah I know not craft but I really really do. I guess the next best thing would be those flour dough ornaments that the kids get to make from cookie cutters, let them dry adn then paint. Yeah a lot like making cookies. hmm...I think I need a cookie intervention.

My mom always used to buy us these tiny little Christmas trees. Probably about 8 inches tall. And we'd make paper ornaments for them. It was so much fun!

There is a blog called Michele made me that has great craft ideas. I also like getting the wooden ornaments that they can paint or decorate. Thanks for the giveaway.

Janet said...

All kids love painting - it's just a question of keeping the mess to a minimum. You can get wooden pieces at the dollar store or craft store. Paint with water based acrylic paint, then glue together to make tree ornaments, fridge magnets or just decorations. Kids love these and they actually last for a long time if you use a good glue. Just make sure you have your plastic aprons and a mop handy. Thanks for a chance at the giveaway.

One thing we have done, though a little late this year to do it, is take a long piece of saran wrap. Lay hershey kisses on it, and wrap them in a roll. Tie pieces of ribbon between eash kiss. It's a count down to Christmas (or really any event/holiday). So if you start it the beginning of Dec, you would need 25 kisses. Each day they give you a kiss and cut one kiss off their "string of kisses." It's a nice way as moms to get that extra kiss! Enjoy!

i love knitting and my mother both knits and crochets. she has been meaning for me to learn it, but only recently i've started being interested and feeling i might actually be any good at it. so winning this would be great jump start.
i'm now expecting my first baby, so i have no experience with holiday activities for kids, but i can tell you what i hope one day i'll make with her: ornaments, postcards and cookies. those are great xmas gifts and i think all involve getting your haands a little dirty so what kid wouldn't love it?

I've always wanted to learn how to crochet, and this would be an amazing start!! :D

It's been a long time since I was a kid (whimper) but I've been having a lot of fun spending Christmas time with my niece. We enjoy decorating Christmas cookies, and helping make monkey bread is a yearly tradition. :)

Non-food oriented, we make simple ornaments. Either felt shapes cut out and glued together, or beaded ornaments, or one year we even glued shells together (we live near the beach).

Thank you for a wonderful giveaway!

I agree with the knifty knitter, but in the same section there is a little round item with 4 pegs on top that you wrap the yarn around and basically make a long rope. Maybe a knitting spool? Us kids loved it when we were younger-would go for hours. Also take wooden blocks and those little craft size bears and stack the blocks up 2 high, glue them together in any order and stick a bear on top or somewhere on the blocks, add a hanger and voila! christmas ornaments for the grandparents. We got one as a baby gift-so cute. Thanks for the chance-always can use a book to help with my crochetting.

Make a paper globe ornament out of a christmas card. Instructions from Martha Stewart's website:

Globes How-To
These airy ornaments are a breeze to make. Cut a card into narrow strips; you'll need about eight to 20 pieces, depending on how much space you want between them. Stack strips and punch holes through both ends with a hole punch (if the stack is too thick, do a few strips at a time); insert a paper fastener into each hole. Bend the stack into a C shape (the card's design should be facing out), and wiggle the strips apart so they fan out to form a globe. To hang, take decorative thread and, starting at the middle of the strand, wind it around the paper fastener several times, then knot ends. When the holidays are over, push strips back into a stack to store without crushing (removing one fastener makes it easier).

You could make stained glass pictures...if your kids are old enough to use glue (or even scissors) you could have them glue different coloured pieces of cellophane onto a piece of paper with an image cut out (I've done snowflakes before, but any image works...you can precut it yourself if the kids are too little). When the entire image is covered in cellophane, tape it to a window. The light shines though, and it looks really pretty!

Have fun!

I like making "stained glass cookies" with them - have them make snakes out of the cookie dough and create closed-in shapes (think bells, peace signs, stocking outlines, etc) and then fill the spaces with crushed up lollipop candy. When you bake them, the candy melts. After they cool, they look, well, cool! Thanks for the chance to win.

Crochet is not my strong point, so I would love to get my hands on a book.

For a kid's craft, you could have them draw/paint/color anything they want, then use th art work as christmas cards or wrappingn paper if you have big paper.

Thanks for the giveaway! Robyn (dot) Geddes (at) gmail (dot) com

Oh, fantastic! I've been wanting to learn how to crochet for ages. :-)

We used to love playing with playdough when we were kids. Hours of fun creating animals and random things, then squishing them up and making new ones!

I know this is not really a craft, but my son and I just finished making "pigs in blankets" and it was a great time. We were busy talking and rolling and even tasting for about an hour. We had a blast!

Merry Christmas!

Wow-I just bought a nutty crochet book and was about to teach myself and burgandy is my favorite color.
(ALthough I might practice on more inexpensive yarn first.)
My best thing I did when I was a kid was make ornaments. To the craftstore; go! Popsicle sticks, pom-poms, yarn, glue, glitter, stickers, punch out wood stars. Don't forget newspaper on the table and lots of compliments. :-)

My daughter is a bit young to be doing crafts (8 months) but not too young to be *used* for crafts. ;-) So I'm thinking something involving handprints. Like an angel with handprint wings. Doesn't that sound adorable?

When I was kid I loved making puppets out of brown bags, either lunch size or big grocery size. Usually used construction paper, yarn, glue, glitter, etc.

Love the gifties you're giving away, love to win!!!!, I guess you won't need to buy christmas cards this year..., your kids can help you to make them, you can use alot of materials, and maybe it's going to turn in a tradition for future years could be neat

I buy those foam kits for my little girl. The kind that has all the shapes cut out of foam. With one sticky side. She loves to make things with those.

When I was little, I always enjoyed creating Christmas plays for my parents. I'd remember the readings from church. Then I'd try to remake them at home. Could be a fun thing for your little girl to try. :)

Honestly, I like to bake cookies with my girls. I let them do all the decorating. Messy. But so fun! OK, so David does the baking. :)

With my oldest daughter, I like to buy one of those Gingerbread House kits. My husband or I put the basic house together. Then we help her to decorate it. Mostly we put the icing on, and she decorates. It's really a lot of fun. :)

Have you ever tried a puppet show? My mom used to give us paper, and scraps of fabric and trims. She'd cut out the basic shapes of the puppets. And we'd go to town decorating them. When we were done, she'd hang a curtain in the doorway. It was our little theater. For hours and hours we'd play with our puppets. So fun!
