Yes, you guessed it. Yarn, crochet hooks, and even a crochet book. Because I desperately want someone to have as much fun, as I'm having crocheting. It's not tough at all. And it makes me think, that I should have tried this a long time ago!
But I want for someone to learn something new. And to have some fun. Oh, and I really like the color of this yarn. I think it would just make a perfect scarf. Or hat. It's super soft too!

A great holiday craft for kids...maybe paper snowflakes? we made lots for our tree this year.
My favorite kid craft is silhouettes! You halp them make them and they make the 'frame' themselves out of popsicle sticks. FUN. Also glitter glue window stickies- just use white glue and glitter on cling wrap... let them dry overnight... peel them off and stick to the window! Easy and they can make any pattern! <3

I made up a craft kids gift for my son's class when he was younger. Take baby food jars, glue styrofoam balls on top. Decorate them to look like snowman. I filled them with a drink mix. It makes a fun gift.

Kids, I have 4, my fav thing to keep them busy lately... Pipe cleaners. ALEX has a fairly cheap set to buy (BIG and SMALL) but obviously all craft stores have them. They create all kinds of animals and stuff. No mess, easy cleanup and keeps them occupied for a long time. Happy Holidays!

I'm just learning to crochet, so this is a great prize! My favorite craft I'm going to do with my kids this year is making snowmen by cutting circles out of white construction paper and glueing cotton balls or pom poms all over them, complete with googly eyes. My kids love pom poms, so I'm sure they'll be a hit!

You could try dying some large tube pasta in holiday colors and let them string pasta garlands :D Or print some holiday images on thick card stock, punch some holes in key points, and let them color and lace them up with yarn (and hang them later as ornaments).

I am currently trying to teach my 8 year old daughter how to crochet and I think she would love her own supplies.
We buy cheap art canvas, and let the kids paint on them and then give them as gifts to grandparents. And anything with stickers goes over well too.
I'm going to say the classic cutting snowflakes out of paper... BUT... there are some amazing free templates you can find online for more snazzy templates. Just the other days I found some for Star Wars snowflakes!!

I have no kids, so I'm a little out of touch. But, when I was a kid I loved going over to my grandma's house to decorate scads and scads of cookies. She also had a cookie press that made all kinds of cool shapes. Thanks for the giveaway!

I always had (and loved) to entertain my siblings! My little sister was 12 years younger and my brother 16 years younger... lot of babysitting for me ^^
But I had a rule for them and myself about playing and crafting: I would only do things with them which I also like. So no boring (and to be honest: stupid) commercial kids games with a few exceptions when they grew older.
I try to remeber what I did with them at the age of two...
I always was telling stories and give little quest to them.
We draw a lot... like the animal drawing game: The first one says what the head should be, the next one what for a body, what kind of legs.. etc...
Crafting was always a good option. Painting and drwaing, using air drying clay, making little magnets, stamping a lot, making a lot out of paper...
Puh...
But I am still crafting with my not-so-little-anymore little sister whenever we are both in the same town. It is a big part if both our lives and we enjoy spending a day together making stuff. And even my brother still draws a lot, also a lot of really cool graffitis (he goes to the companies and ask whether they would give him the paint for free if he makes a cool design of boring walls.. he did this since he is twelve and I am surprised how many companies said yes!)... and he makes music which is also a creativ process.
we love watercolors in our house. you just need a glass of water and a sheet of paper, and you can go nuts.
When my kids were little they made count down calenders every year. Used cotton balls for santa's beard and any other thing they could think of to decorate the calender.
I got a gingerbread house decorating kit from Aldi ($6.99) that we'll be working on soon. I got one last year when my kids were 3 and 1-1/2 and they had fun, but this year I think they'll have a blast!
We always made ornaments over the break. Wooden ones that we'd paint. And every year we'd have a few more to add to the tree. It was fun!

I find that whenever I plan some fun craft for them, they don't want to craft. At least not what I had planned :P But after some grumbling they pick up the glue, paper, woodsies, whatever craftable there is and they start creating their own things.If I don't plan anything, they won't start to craft, so I plan and they do something different ;)
My little ones love making paper chains!! They can't get enough of red and green little circles to hang on the tree, in the doorways, pretty much anywhere they can find a bare wall :)
I haven't crocheted since I was a little girl. This just might inspire me to re-learn! That's a beautiful color as well.

Yeah, Crochet!
The simplest Christmas craft is buying inexpensive red and green beads, thick pipecleaners and red and green ribbon. I bend over the end of the pipecleaner to make the "knot" and let the kiddos slip on the beads. I make the same "knot" at the end and then the kiddos bend them into candy canes, wreaths and sqiggly shapes and I finish them off with ribbon lools and bows.
For the wee ones, white paint and a thumb can make snowmen and big sis can make faces and hats.

I am just starting to learn how to crochet after spending the last 5 years knitting exclusively.
I tend to spend my time with little ones playing games, reading and putting together puzzles. We've painted t-shirts (drawing, putting handprints, etc.), did basic sewing and knitting projects and even did some tie-dying. Good luck with that!

Were you looking for a craft to produce something or just to keep the smalls busy? Because one of my longterm standbys for grotty weather and fed-up children is 'Cornflour Gloop'.
Mix together water and cornflour in a bowl. It is thixotropic fluid which means when it is in the pot it is solid and can be scooped up but when you let it drip it falls like a thick liquid. I add food colouring and glitter sometimes too!
Wooly soaps! wrap wool roving around a new bar of soap. Let your child massage the wooly soap in warm water until it begins to felt. It's a washcloth and soap rolled into one!

I just started crocheting, and I don't have a big set of hooks yet. This would be perfect to get me going! I don't have kids, but I would think baking would be fun to do with kids. Give them their own mini ingredients, and you can all bake cookies together!
Oh my kiddos LOVE making different craft projects using the foam stickers (joann's, michael's, hobby lobby etc) They go on sale 50% off so only buy them on sale! :) This weekend the kids and I are making "reindeer food" my daughter thinks reindeer eat chex mix so we will make some of that for her and my 2 year old well his will be cheerios and goldfish crackers. We put the food into ziploc baggies with tags I print on the computer and each afternoon they throw out a handful of the reindeer food to insure Santa's reindeer will stop at our house Christmas Eve. Sounds silly but my lil ones love it!

ooh i love colorful crochet hooks! there's nothing like starting out a new project with a cheerful bit of color. we like to take old crayons and grate them in a box grater, then iron them between sheets of waxed paper (use old towels for protection). cut them into shapes and hang from windows - very pretty!

I don't do a lot of "crafts," per se, but I'm an early childhood teacher and I have a well-stocked studio where the kids can make what they like. One of the biggest hits is mason jars filled with "beautiful stuff," sorted by color and lined up in rainbow order. In the jars go bread tags, dried-up marker tops, broken jewelry, ribbon scraps, lids--any kind of little otherwise-would-be-trash stuff. The kids use them for collage, to build things, to add to clay, etc.

I always loved making paper bag snowmen. Get a white paper bag, fill each section with newspaper and either twist or tie off. Add accessories. FUN!
We always used to make our own ornaments--crochet little ice skates, with paper clips for the blade. They were simple to work up, and looked great on the tree. And its a good way to teach kids to crochet!

Make a batch of sugar cookie dough (my favorite is by alton brown from food network). Then let them sculpt anything they want from the dough. Cook it up and devour.
There is just something so much more satisfying about creating from edible stuff instead of regular old playdough.
(and I also love the color of that yarn!)

She used clear ornaments and white craft paint. Painted their little fingers, pressed them on the the ornament, added hats, scarves, and carrot noses, and it was suddenly a little family of snowmen.

I would pencil on muslin big crosses for teaching them cross stich. One color at a time and then I would pencil the next color for them to go for it. Pretty soon the picture would come alive. some of my favorite things are what they made and I framed.

Thanks for the giveaway! When I crochet and my niece likes to "help," I needed to give her something to do. We cut out some simple shapes from cardstock and punched holes around the edge to make homemade sewing cards. You could easily do this with Xmas shapes like trees, snowmen, ornaments, etc. A big plastic needle I use for weaving ends and some scrap yarn and she's all set!

I am making superhero capes for my newphews
I've been thinking about learning to crochet. I knit, and so I could probably learn to crochet, right? What I really want to do is make trim that I could use in sewing projects. I don't know if that is unrealistic.
My kids are very crafty - they use just about anything to make stuff. One fun holiday crafts we have made is a chimney (we don't have one). They made it out of paper and we drew the bricks and fireplace. Now we're using craft foam to make wreaths and stockings and fire and logs and candles and... you get the idea. Another fun thing is to make ornaments from balloons and string. Put glue all over the balloon and wrap the string. Let dry, pop the balloon and put some garland inside. Always fun and messy.

Watercolors (washable!) keep my daughter occupied for a long time. I also recently taught her to "finger-knit" and she loves it.

The kids and I make birdseed ornaments or houses. They're easy and good for gifts. Recipes with the gelatin are easy to find. For a house, just buy a dollar store bird house, slather it with peanut butter of shortening and decorate with birdseed, nuts, dried fruit, etc.

my boys are still little (3 and 1 1/2) so my crafting ideas are limited but they do love playing with and painting boxes to turn them into houses. I think I've going to try to make a "tent" out of calico with fabric paints for them to paint their own flowers, bricks etc etc.

As for a kid friendly holiday craft... how about reindeer candy cane ornaments? They are super easy to make. All you need is a candy cane, glue, 1 tiny red pom-pom for the nose, 2 little wiggle eyes, brown pipe cleaner for antlers and a ribbon for hanging.

I love the craft ideas in Family Fun magazine... do you subscribe to that? My niece and I are going to make these cute ornaments featured in the December issue. You recycle a sweater (we found a perfect one to use at the thrift shop) by felting it in the washing machine. Since it won't unravel at that point, you can cut out shapes from the colorful felt, punch holes, and hang them on the tree. We're making little mittens and stars.
I don't know how to crochet. But I want to learn! Here's my chance.
You can make reindeer or toy soldier ornaments out of clothespins. Not the kind that squeeze open, but the solid kind. Just a little paint and some accessories, and you can decorate your tree with them by slipping them on the branches. Or you could try those christmas trees that are made out of safety pins and beads. I haven't made one, but I want to try. that's a little more involved, but you can just do a google search for "safety pin christmas tree" and you will see what I'm talking about.
I love making sparkley peppermint scented playdough at Christmas time. Just make plain white playdough, add in some peppermint extract and some of the larger type of glitter (I like silver). It is pretty and MMmmm! It smells good!

My kids love to do hand print santa's. Just use white paint with their fingers together then on the side of the hand (like a baby foot) put red paint on the palm of the white. Santa's beard and hat! Then draw on eyes and a nose.

My 4 yr old and I had fun last week making "Bunny Huts". I didn't have any Christmas color craft foam, and had a big bag of leftover Easter foam stickers. So we made our Easter version of gingerbread houses (sewed together with yarn) for Christmas gifts. My son was more obsessed with the hole punch and stickers than finishing the project, but that's ok, we had lots of fun!
I often get a big box of crafty things like paper, pens, feathers, paints, stickers, beads, foam shapes, glitter, glue, mags etc and the kids spend hours creating cards and pictures. It's a great way for them to pass the time.
I recently started knitting and crochet is on my bucket list. There is no time like the present to learn and make some great things. My favourite holiday craft with the kids is using hot glue guns to decorate photo frames for gifts. Those crochet hooks are so PRETTY!! I hope I win so I can pass on some of my mismatched hooks
My mum made cookies with us that were fun to make and tasted oh so yummy. they were a simple sugar cookie dough, then the had the middles cut out. we then crushed sour ball candies and placed them in the center of the cookies. As they baked the candy melted and made beautiful stain glass cookies.

when i was a kid my favourite christmas holiday crafty activity was potato stamping things like christmassy shapes in reds and greens etc onto big sheets of butchers paper and then accenting them with pencils or black fineliner when i got older and using it as wrapping paper. you can get butchers paper from the butchers for nothing if you ask nicely :)

When I was little my mom and I made a garland out of string and uncooked pasta - 15 years later it still hangs on our Christmas tree every year and it's one of my favorite decorations!
You can teach them to make their own bookmarks. Have them draw on cardstock, then you can help them cover it with clear contact paper to protect them. Easy, and the little works of art are also great gifts for grandparents and all. Tina

My children used to love hama beads - perhaps they're called something else in the US! but you make patterns from plastic beads(tubes) and iron them!!

We always enjoyed making macaroni necklaces with buttons or whatever else we could find to add to them. Food coloring to color the pasta, but also everyone's fingers. Thanks for the giveaway.
Whoo, yarn and crocheting supplies! I love making ornaments out of rolled-up yarn as a kid. You just roll it and glue it to some cardstock (kind of like quilled paper, only with yarn). Snowmans work especially well.

We used to love collecting things like pine cones and holly when we were walking the dog, then coming home and spray painting them silver and gold, or covering them in glue and dipping them in glitter
I so want to learn how to crochet! As for a Christmas craft...my daughter loves to handsew and has been making "stuffie" mouse ornaments out of my scrap fabrics, cotton filling, felt and ribbon. She took the instrctions/template from the new (and totally fabulous for kids) book "Sewing School" and added a ribbon loop to the top. Cheers!
Oh, I just started crocheting again and would love to win this. As for a great holiday craft for kids... my son is 1 and I've found it really hard to do crafts with him so far so I don't have any really great ideas, but one thing that is more of an activity than a craft is making cookies or pie dough - my 1 year old loves feeling the dough in his hands and flattening it out with me.
My 8yo daughter is working hard knitting coasters for her grandmothers, and grill mitts for the men. The boys are going to make birdseed birdhouses--mix peanut butter and cornstarch and use that as the glue to glue birdseed to wooden birdhouses (that is, they will make them if I get out and buy the birdhouses!) In the past we've done lots of things with handprints--t-shirts, placemats, stepping stones....kind of wore that idea out.

for my daughter's class party this friday we are making ornaments with pipe cleaners and beads...they will put the beads on the pipe cleaners and then bend the pipe cleaners into the desired shape (could be a star, circle, candy cane, etc).

Ooo Crocheting supplies!! All of mine were drowned when our house flooded last year and I just haven't had the money to replace them yet.
Our kids are both under 3 so we color a lot! But they do enjoy helping in the kitchen, so when we make cookies, we let our daughter make her own shapes and decorate with dried fruit. Our son, just likes to help eat the fruit :)

One of my favorite kid holiday crafts is making paper garlands - the kind where you fold a long piece of paper accordion style until you've got a pile of small rectangles all hanging together. Then you draw a holiday (or any other shape) on it - the only thing you need to take care of is that it reaches the left and right sides at the same height - so for example snowmen with their arms sticking out to the sides, angels, stars, a reindeer sled, anything you fancy really. Then cut along the outline, cutting the whole pile/accordion of paper at the same time, and when you're done and open it up, you've got a pretty garland.
That sounded more complicated than it is, I'd have a much easier demonstrating than describing this...

My kids are grown, but when I unpacked a box of Christmas decorations that I hadn't opened in a very long time, I found their art projects from preschool. One particularly cute project was a reindeer made from a toilet paper core, thick rubber bands, and construction paper. The head is drawn on light construction paper and colored with crayons. The TP core becomes the "body," so the head is attached to one upright end. Four lengths of wide rubber bands, cut open, are attached with staples equidistantly on both sides of either end to make legs. The hooves, cut from construction paper, are attached at the end of each leg. Stand the roll on its end at the edge of a table, so the reindeer's legs hang off and dangle. So cute!

Not sure if it's been suggested but coffee filter snowflakes. You can even dye them so they are not just white but colorful. :)
I'd love to give crochet a try. We just made paper snowflakes. We found instructions for folding a five point star which is easier to cut than the traditional eight point.
I have a pre-schooler, so I can't do anything too complicated with crafts. We cut out those lovely paper snowflakes and I let him glue beads and feathers to them. We also fingerpainted some lovely card stock stocking that we hung on the tree with ribbon. :)

Growing up my mom would cut out gingerbread shapes from cardboard and we'd each decorate one with markers and hang it on the tree...really easy and fun!
Every holiday for as long as I can remember, my mother would 'forget' to pack the Christmas decorations.
So we would spend weeks making paper chains and stars and angels, from tin foil and sweet wrappers and just about anything else we could find. Great fun!
I have 6 kids and their favorite thing when they were younger was to make cinnamon ornaments. I don't remember all that was in it...cinnamon and elmer's glue and we would use cookie cutters to cut them out and poked a hole with a straw to put hangers through. As I type my girls are decorating a gingerbread house! I got one of the kits from Joann, assembled the house for them and then let them go to town! A bath will be required (and probably I'll need to hose down the kitchen) but they're having a blast!

Paper snow flakes. It's cheap, and recycleable. Oh, and my 3 year old loves glue, so I made felt ornament shapes and let her glue sequins onto them. She loved it.

Glitter, plain glass ornament,an good ol' Elmer's glue. Write names in glue then let the kiddos sprinkle them with glitter. Loads of fun.
We love sidewalk chalk--everywhere! We painted one small wall in the kitchen with chalkboard paint, so we can use chalk even when the weather won't let us do it outside.

My mother and sister love to crochet. I would like to surprise my mother if win this prize.
My grandniece loves to make up stories and draw/color them while telling the story. She is 5. We lay large layered pieces of packing wrap paper on the floor and let her color with markers. This gives plenty of protection to the floor and a huge area for her to use for drawing (lack of coordination). Perhaps your kids would like to illustrate a madeup story. Her last story was about princesses in Christmas tutus going down the chimney.
I'll give the kid paint n paper n he will design the wrapping paper for the christmas gifts

I'll actually be posting one on my blog tomorrow that muy 5 kids worked on this past weekend. We bought foam from walmart in the shapes of northpole things and I covered a pice of cardboard and let them go nuts.

I'm not sure it's a craft, but we have lots of leaves in the fall. My two oldest GDs like to sweep/rake and make a little club area for hemselves. They even made some trinkets to hang in the trees.

Super cute! The yarn actually looks like it's almost an exact match for the yarn I've been using to knit a blanket with matching beanie cap for my first kid. (We're due in the spring.) Though I'm sure they're not from the same dye batch. I'm excited that someone else is getting into playing with yarn! I really hope you enjoy it, I've seen some splendidly fun patterns out there while delving into the knitting world, it may be time to practice crochet ;)

Foam, foam, foam. Get those foam sheets from a craft store (they come in tons of colors and are really cheap), glue, and scissors, and let them go to town making christmas trees, creatures, decorations, whatever they'd like.
Or you can give them a stack of construction paper or cardstock and have them make christmas cards for every single person they know. And people they don't know. Like the mail-person, or that one weird neighbor that nobody talks to...

My fave kid activity is to pull out the IKEA smocks, the big roll of paper, and watercolors. It lets them be creative while I get stuff done and they seem to love it.

Try soap snow balls. Grate ivory soap using the big holes side of a cheese grater. Moisten the soap shread just until they start to stick together. Let the kids shape them into balls for guest soaps. OR you can place small, water-proof toys.erasers/etc in the center and form the soap around the toy, etc, making a treasure soap. Good clean fun that will get those kiddos washing their hands more often! The finished soaps make great gifts@
Oh thanks for a great giveaway! I think that the best craft for kids was an idea I saw. Get a transfer pencil and give one to each kid. Have them draw a picture and iron it on to a piece of fabric. They can then use colors to tint it and you have instant sewable art!

I like making popsicle snowflakes with the kids. But with all the glitter and glue, it can get a little messy.
Making crazy crayons is fun. Melt the crayon chips in the bottom of a muffin tin and let cool. Swirly crayons are fun.
Try cutting paper silhouettes.
